Rich and decadent

The Barbadillo family are one of the key players in the Sherry trade. From their base in the coastal city of Sanlucar de Barrameda, at the very southwest tip of Spain, the family have forged a reputation as one of the biggest and best Sherry producers. Founded in 1821 and still family owned and run today, Bodegas Barbadillo are a long-established favourite of Adnams.

Description

Olorosos are Sherries that have aged in the absence of flor and are rich and full. As the name indicates it is a highly aromatic wine with toffee notes. This Oloroso is very slightly sweetened to leave a smooth satisfying finish in the mouth. Once fermentation has finished the best robust wines are selected and fortified with wine based distilled spirit to 18%. This wine known as sobretables is then aged for five years in Jerez botas or barrels the oxidative aging process is carried out in the traditional criadera tiered system. Great with cheeses, some spiced desserts and on its own as an aperitif – lightly chilled.

How does it taste

Mahogany in colour, this rich Oloroso has aromas of oak, dried fruit and nuts.

Delicious! Rich and complex flavours quite unlike some of the aggressive Finos you may be unlucky enough to buy.

I’m a real fan of oloroso secco- all the flavour of an oloroso yet so dry.
This is a very fine example, especially sipped chilled in the garden on a warm summer’s evening.

Excellent Oloroso for everyday drinking

Really delicious Oloroso. Maybe not quite as complex as a more expensive marque and with a relatively short finish by sherry standards. But none dry and packed full of all those tobacco / vanilla / nutty flavours. Also a nice salty undertone.

Fantastic with a bit of ham, and at this price a ridiculous bargain.
