Adnams White Burgundy is made from grapes grown around the village of Chardonnay in the Mâconnais region of southern Burgundy. Its eye-catching label reflects the region, the village, and the origins of the grape. The name Chardonnay comes from the medieval Latin word cardonnacum, meaning ‘place of thistles.’ The region is subtly highlighted in the new design by a thistle in graphic form. Our fantastic unoaked Chardonnay is, as ever, made for us by the wonderful Talmard family, a name with historic significance that can be found in records as far back as the 17th century. Through the generations, the family has managed the estate with expertise and each vintage offers something special. Daughter Mallory and son-in-law Benjamin took over from Paul Talmard in 1997 and continue with his philosophy of 'skill and love of the vine.' The landscape here is characterised by its limestone soils, which are of immense importance to the character of Burgundy’s wines, bringing a quintessential minerality and complexity. The vineyard team uses straw to bring out the natural fertilisers in the soil, because excellent quality and respect for the land is at the heart of their production. The result is a fabulous, complex and mineral-rich chardonnay.

One of my favourite wines ever, this white gets a fivestar rating on the Adnams website and has already been “discovered” by the Norfolk-and-Suffolk-holiday-houses set, who order it by the case load to drink when they get back from the beach. Unoaked white burgundy that is creamy and subtle.

Description

Our best-selling and most-loved Adnams white wine! This gorgeous unoaked Chardonnay is from the brilliant Talmard family. Fermented in stainless-steel tanks from grapes grown around the eponymous village of Chardonnay in the southern Burgundy region of Macon. Our White Burgundy evolves during the year, starting off fresh, zippy, zesty and energetic when it first arrives (around April) and gets richer and fatter as we head through summer and into autumn and winter. By Christmas then early spring, it will have taken on richer, warm tropical fruit notes. We simply love it. Gorgeous served on its own, or pair with chicken, fish or hearty salads.

How does it taste

The warm summer in the Mâcon gave ripeness and freshness in perfect harmony. The 2022 vintage tastes of fresh white peaches, with zesty lemon and a soft, ripe texture. This nuanced and evolving unoaked Chardonnay starts off fresh and energetic when it first arrives. It gets richer and fatter as the year progresses, taking on warm tropical fruit notes. Gorgeous served on its own, or paired with chicken, fish or hearty salads.

Great value white wine is a nice follow on for a party glass of Adnams' prosecco. Goes well with veg, fish or poultry too. Excellent all rounder.
