Blackshore stout

Blackshore stout

Blackshore Stout’s name was inspired by the black fisherman’s net huts on Southwold Harbour. Described fondly by the Countryside Commission as 'a ramshackle collection of jetties, huts, and sheds,’ the Blackshore area is a photographer’s dream. Collectively, its fisherman’s huts are a reminder of the industry that once supported the town. Painted timber meets black-stained weatherboards, and merges with pitched roofs, corrugated iron, and a juxtaposition of hand-crafted joinery. There is variety in its parts, yet commonality in its whole. Just like Blackshore Stout, with its monumental mash bill, there is a lot crammed in there, but it all adds to its wonderful charm.

Description

Blackshore is a smooth, easy-drinking stout, named after the black-tarred fishing huts that line Southwold's harbour. They are individual, characterful and made of sturdy stuff. It is brewed with a hefty mash bill for a rich, broad malt character. You’ll find Pale Ale, Brown, Double Roasted Crystal, and Chocolate malts, alongside Roasted Barley and a hearty helping of oats. This adds a real depth of flavour, that the brewing team are particularly proud of, making it tremendously tasty, but mellow on the finish.

How does it taste

Blackshore Stout is brimming with dark malt flavours of coffee, chocolate, and liquorice, thanks to a generous gesture with the grains. Using oats adds a smoothness and this, coupled with a light hop character, make it easy drinking and exceptionally moreish. Blackshore is hopped with Pilgrim and other British hops for a subtle bitterness and hints of dark hedgerow fruit.

Stout

I’m usually a Guinness drinker and I’m always wary about trying other stouts. I wasn’t disappointed and only wish my local pub had it on tap.

Brilliant Blackshore

An amazing stout , perfect colour and taste , not too sweet but too too dry and thick either. It’s great chilled or ambient, fabulous on draught but also very very good from the bottle. Slips down create and is not too heavy.

A Very Good Stout

I enjoyed the Blackshore Stout very much. Thank you Brewmasters. I'll suggest it to the other stout drinker in the family.
